Why It Matters

The continued use of drones by Russia to target civilian areas underscores the vulnerability of Ukrainian cities and the need for enhanced air defense capabilities. This tactic likely aims to degrade Ukrainian morale and infrastructure, while also potentially probing Ukrainian air defense response times and effectiveness. The reliance on Shahed drones suggests supply chain resilience for Russia in this area.

A Russian drone strike hit a residential building in the city of Kryvyi Rih in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region, killing two people and injuring several others, local officials said.

According to Oleksandr Vilkul, head of the city’s defense council, the strike involved a direct hit on an apartment building, causing casualties.

“Hit on a residential building. There are dead and wounded,” Vilkul said in a Telegram post.

Regional officials later confirmed that two civilians were killed. This included a 43‑year‑old man and a 65‑year‑old woman.

Vilkul said the attack involved a Shahed‑type drone, widely used by Russian forces in strikes on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.

Among the wounded was a nine‑month‑old child, who suffered a leg injury, and was urgently evacuated to hospital, where doctors are providing ongoing medical care.

The strike comes amid continued attacks across the region.

Earlier, Ukrainian officials reported that Russian forces had carried out more than 50 strikes across Dnipropetrovsk region on Tuesday, injuring five civilians, according to Ukrinform.

Russian forces also struck the Dniprovskyi district of Kherson with drones, wounding two civilians, as reported by the regional military administration on Telegram.

A 67‑year‑old man and a 40‑year‑old man suffered shrapnel and blast injuries in separate attacks about an hour apart and were hospitalized.

Officials said 12 people were injured across the Kherson region on Tuesday, including a child.

The attacks underscore the continuing intensity of Russian strikes on civilian areas across Ukraine, despite ongoing international diplomatic efforts to reduce hostilities.
