Confidence: 95%

Key Takeaways

  • Russia launched 132 drones and 2 ballistic missiles targeting multiple regions of Ukraine.
  • Ukrainian air defenses intercepted 114 drones (approximately 86% interception rate), but 16 drones and 2 missiles still reached their targets.
  • The attack resulted in one civilian death in Kherson (minibus strike) and injuries to medical personnel and civilians in Kherson and Kharkiv regions.
  • A variety of drone types were used, including Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and Parody decoy drones, indicating a diversified drone arsenal.
  • Targets included civilian infrastructure – a minibus, ambulance, residential houses, and a livestock complex – suggesting a deliberate strategy to disrupt civilian life.

Why It Matters

The continued use of drones by Russia demonstrates their effectiveness in probing Ukrainian air defenses and inflicting damage at a relatively low cost. The targeting of civilian infrastructure indicates a potential shift in tactics or a deliberate attempt to degrade morale and strain resources. This necessitates continued investment in and refinement of Ukrainian counter-UAS capabilities and air defense systems.

Russian forces launched a wave of drone attacks across Ukraine, killing a civilian in Kherson, wounding children in the Kharkiv region, and killing livestock in the Kirovohrad region, according to official reports.

Russian troops struck a minibus in Kherson with a drone on Tuesday morning, according to the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration (OVA), Oleksandr Prokudin, who reported the incident on Telegram.
