Key Takeaways

  • Russian forces utilized drones to attack Kherson’s Korabelnyi district.
  • The attacks resulted in one fatality (75-year-old male) and multiple injuries (12-year-old boy, 3 medical workers).
  • Targets included residential buildings, and an ambulance on hospital grounds.
  • Kherson is under near-constant fire from Russian forces across the Dnipro River.
  • FPV drones are specifically mentioned as a component of the Russian attack pattern.

Why It Matters

The continued targeting of civilian infrastructure in Kherson demonstrates Russia’s willingness to disregard international law and inflict harm on the civilian population. The use of drones for these attacks indicates a growing reliance on this technology for tactical operations and potentially reconnaissance. This necessitates increased focus on counter-UAS capabilities and civilian protection measures in the region.

A 75-year-old civilian was killed in Kherson in the early hour of Friday after Russian forces struck the city’s Korabelnyi district with a drone, regional authorities said.

The victim was an elderly man who suffered fatal injuries in what officials described as another attack on a civilian area of the southern Ukrainian city.

“Russian terrorists have killed another resident of Kherson,” Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, said in a statement. “About an hour ago, as a result of an enemy drone attack on the Korabelnyi district of the city, a 75-year-old man sustained injuries incompatible with life.”

Kherson, which was liberated by Ukrainian forces in November 2022, remains under near-constant Russian fire from the occupied eastern bank of the Dnipro River.

Russian troops have repeatedly targeted residential neighborhoods, roads, public transport, medical vehicles and civilians moving through the city. Local authorities regularly report casualties from artillery, aerial bombs and FPV drone attacks.

The fatal strike came after several Russian attacks on Kherson earlier on Thursday.

In the morning, Russian forces attacked the same Korabelnyi district with a drone, hitting a residential building and injuring a 12-year-old boy.

Later in the day, Russian troops struck an ambulance on the grounds of a hospital in the city’s Dniprovskyi district, injuring three medical workers.

The attacks add to the growing toll on civilians in Kherson, where daily Russian strikes have turned ordinary streets, courtyards and homes into front-line targets.
