ORCUS
UK integrated counter-UAS system providing modular, scalable detection, tracking, and defeat capabilities for force protection.
System Overview
What It Is
ORCUS is the UK primary counter-UAS system developed under the SYNERGIA program, providing RAF Regiment and other UK forces with organic drone defense capability.
How It Works
The system integrates multiple sensors including SKYPERION passive RF detection and electro-optical tracking. The Leonardo Guardian electronic warfare system provides defeat capability, acting as an electronic sniper rifle against drone threats.
Primary Capability
Modular counter-UAS providing integrated detection, tracking, identification, and electronic defeat for protection of UK military bases.
Combat Record / Operational History
Achieved Initial Operating Capability in 2024. Deployed for protection of UK military installations at home and overseas.
Overview
ORCUS provides the UK with sovereign counter-UAS capability, enabling rapid response to drone threats at military installations worldwide.
Development History
Developed under the SYNERGIA program with Leonardo as systems integrator. The system combines UK and US technology to provide comprehensive capability.
Deployment Concept
Weighing approximately 3 tonnes, ORCUS can be transported by Chinook helicopter for rapid deployment to threatened locations, providing immediate protection capability.
