11 Killed, Over 100 Wounded in Massive Overnight Russian Missile and Drone Barrage Across Ukraine

Russia launched a massive combined missile and drone attack across Ukraine in the early hours of Tuesday, June 2, killing at least 10 people and injuring over 100 others as strikes hit Kyiv, Dnipro, Kharkiv and Kyiv region, local authorities said.

The overnight assault triggered fires, damaged multi-story residential buildings across several regions and knocked out power in parts of the capital.

In Kyiv, 4 people were killed and 51 injured, including three children, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said. Thirty-five people were hospitalized, while others received medical assistance at the scene or outpatient treatment.

According to the State Emergency Service (DSNS), as of 8:00 a.m., four people had been killed and 58 injured in Kyiv, including three children.

“Rescuers continue to deal with the consequences of the large-scale Russian attack,” the report said.

Kyiv’s air raid alert lasted more than three hours before the all-clear was announced at 4:39 a.m.

Falling debris and strikes caused damage across several districts of the capital.

In the Podilskyi district, a repeat strike on a nine-story residential building caused a partial structural collapse. Klitschko warned that people could be trapped under the rubble. Non-residential buildings and vehicles also caught fire in the district.

In the Shevchenkivskyi district, a missile likely hit a 24-story residential building, causing a fire on the fourth and fifth floors.

In the Solomianskyi district, the upper floors of a 15-story residential building were damaged. Authorities also reported a fire in a 24-story building on the seventh and eighth floors.

In the Holosiivskyi district, a medical facility suffered damage, with the second and third floors partially collapsing after a strike and fire. Fires were also reported at non-residential buildings, kiosks and an auto park.

In the Obolonskyi district, drone debris fell near a kindergarten, while a fire broke out at an unfinished construction site. In the Darnytskyi district, falling debris caused a fire on the territory of a gas station and later at a non-residential building. In the Sviatoshynskyi district, a fire broke out on the first floor of a high-rise residential building.

Klitschko also said power outages were reported in the Podilskyi, Obolonskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts.

The attack extended beyond the capital, with deadly strikes reported in Dnipro and damage in Kharkiv.

In Dnipro, overnight strikes killed 4 people and wounded at least 16, regional governor Oleksandr Hanzha initially said Tuesday morning.

“The number of wounded in the Russian overnight strike on Dnipro has risen to 16,” Hanzha said in a Telegram post. “This enemy attack has claimed the lives of four people.”

However, later he clarified that six people were killed in Dnipro and 33 others were injured.

“A 22-year-old man and a 71-year-old woman are in serious condition. Twenty-four people, including a 16-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl, are hospitalized in moderate condition. The rest will receive outpatient treatment,” the statement said.

According to Hanzha, the attack partially destroyed a two-story building and damaged several apartments in a four-story residential building.

In an update at 8:54 a.m., Ganzha said that another person injured in the Russian attack on Dnipro had died in hospital. Doctors were unable to save the 60-year-old man due to the severity of his injuries.

“The overnight enemy attack on the city has now claimed seven lives. Thirty-five people were injured, including three children. Twenty of the wounded remain hospitalized, four of them in critical condition,” he said.

Ganzha added that emergency services continue to work at the strike sites, while damage assessments are ongoing. According to preliminary information, 50 residential buildings were damaged and more than 2,000 windows were shattered.

In a 9:35 a.m. update, the governor revealed the number of fatalities had increased to eight.

“The Russian attack on Dnipro claimed the life of a small boy. Rescuers recovered the body of a child born in 2023 from the rubble of a four-story building damaged in the strike. Tonight, the Russians killed eight people in Dnipro,” he said.

In the city of Kamianske, an administrative building and several apartment blocks were damaged. Three people were injured – a 50-year-old man and two women aged 49 and 72. All were hospitalized in stable condition.

Russian forces also struck Kharkiv in northeastern Ukraine overnight, hitting two districts of the city, Mayor Ihor Terekhov said.

The Russian drone hit an industrial zone in the Osnovianskyi district, while another strike was recorded in the Slobidskyi district. Terekhov said there were casualties in the Osnovianskyi district and that a fire broke out at the site of the strike.

Later, the head of the Kharkiv OVA, Oleh Syniehubov, reported the number of victims in the city’s Slobidskyi district has risen to eight. Seven people suffered acute stress reactions, while another woman was injured by shattered glass. All received medical assistance.

In Kyiv region, three people were injured after Russian forces attacked the area overnight with drones, cruise missiles and ballistic weapons, regional governor Mykola Kalashnyk said.

Damage from the attack was recorded in four districts of the region, including residential buildings and warehouse facilities. Fires also broke out in several locations.

The attacks on Kyiv, Dnipro and Kharkiv were part of  a large-scale Russian missile and drone assault across Ukraine.

Ukraine’s Air Force reported that Russian forces launched Kalibr cruise missiles toward Ukraine from the Caspian Sea.

Air defense warnings were activated nationwide after tactical units identified the threat of ballistic strikes incoming from Russia’s east and northeast.

The strikes follow recent intelligence briefings highlighted by President Volodymyr Zelensky, who had warned that Moscow was actively preparing a massive nationwide offensive. Zelensky reiterated that reinforcing Ukraine’s air defense umbrella and securing additional Western interceptors remains Kyiv’s top priority.

Russia has repeatedly launched combined missile and drone attacks against Ukrainian cities, killing civilians. Ukrainian prosecutors and international monitors continue to document these attacks as potential war crimes, including for future proceedings before the International Criminal Court.
