Elbit’s AI-Driven DESEAVER MK-4 Redefines Naval Soft-Kill Defense Against Multi-Directional Missile Threats - Autonomy Global
AI Analysis
Elbit Systems has developed the DESEAVER MK-4, an AI-powered naval decoy launching system offering 360-degree protection against multi-directional missile threats. The system autonomously prioritizes threats and deploys optimal decoys, integrating with existing ship combat management systems. A partnership with Rafael will see deployment to NATO European frigates starting in March 2025.
Key Takeaways
- The DESEAVER MK-4 is a fourth-generation, AI-driven soft-kill defense system for naval vessels.
- It utilizes Elbit’s Integrated Electronic Warfare Suite (IEWS) for automated threat assessment and response.
- Three launcher configurations are available: FRLU, RRLU (24 rockets, 360° coverage), and SRLU (24 rockets, 360° coverage).
- The system has completed sea trials with the Israeli Navy and is slated for deployment to NATO frigates in partnership with Rafael.
- Elbit markets the DESEAVER MK-4 as a significant upgrade over legacy fixed decoy launchers.
Why It Matters
The DESEAVER MK-4 represents a shift towards more autonomous and responsive naval defense systems, crucial in increasingly contested maritime environments. Its AI-driven capabilities reduce reliance on human intervention, enabling faster reaction times against complex missile attacks. The NATO adoption signals a growing international need for advanced soft-kill countermeasures.

Israel’s Elbit Systems has advanced naval survivability with the DESEAVER MK-4, a fourth-generation AI-powered decoy launching system that autonomously detects, assesses, and neutralizes complex, multi-directional missile threats in real time.
The system operates within Elbit’s Integrated Electronic Warfare Suite (IEWS), conducting automated threat prioritization and deploying both passive and active decoys from multiple trainable, stabilized launchers simultaneously to provide full 360-degree perimeter protection. Its anti-missile algorithms select the optimal decoy type and launch parameters for each threat, enabling rapid and precise soft-kill responses without human intervention.
Elbit has developed three launcher configurations for the DESEAVER MK-4: a Fixed Rocket Launcher Unit (FRLU), a Rotating Rocket Launcher Unit (RRLU), and a Stabilized Rocket Launcher Unit (SRLU). The RRLU and SRLU variants each hold 24 rockets and achieve full 360-degree coverage through rapid rotation. The system integrates directly with ship combat management systems and has completed successful sea trials aboard Israeli Navy vessels.
In March 2025, Elbit partnered with Rafael to supply DESEAVER MK-4, paired with Rafael’s decoys, to NATO European frigates, signaling strong international demand for the platform. Elbit positions the system as a critical upgrade path away from legacy fixed launchers, enhancing fleet survivability in modern contested naval environments.
