Ukraine is introducing a unique kind of deterrence to first-person view (FPV) drones: an autonomous turret that shoots nets across a 6-meter (20-foot) distance.

The demonstrator, dubbed Scan Horizon, combines multiple sensors to process data simultaneously for target detection and tracking.

It detects potential threats passively at distances of up to 20 meters (66 feet) through an AI-powered microphone array, confirms them visually via an optical camera system, and then uses radar to calculate proximity and velocity.

Scan Horizon’s AI models are built to track targets from up to 25 meters (82 feet) away, while its radar enables localization functions within an 18-meter (59-foot) radius.

Polish-Ukrainian developer Postup Solutions said that once activated by an operator, the system takes over the entire kill chain from detection to engagement without further human input.

System Roadmap

The net-launching mechanism, developed by Kyiv-based Ptashka Drones, was demonstrated at the European Defense Tech Hackathon event.
