DroneShield et Overland AI have announced a collaboration to integrate counter-UAS system capabilities into an autonomous ground platform, aiming to address emerging aerial threats to uncrewed operations.

The partnership brings DroneShield’s DroneSentry-X Mk2 system onto Overland AI’s ULTRA unmanned ground vehicle, combining mobility with real-time drone detection. The companies say the integration is intended to enhance situational awareness for ground systems operating in complex and contested environments.

Overland AI’s ULTRA platform is designed for off-road and austere conditions where conventional vehicles may struggle to operate. Its autonomous capabilities are positioned to support missions including reconnaissance, perimeter security, logistics and distributed maneuver, while reducing personnel exposure.

The integration reflects a growing focus on protecting ground systems from small drone threats, which are increasingly used for surveillance, targeting and disruption. By adding DroneShield’s detection system, the platform is intended to maintain awareness of the aerial domain while operating independently.

DroneSentry-X Mk2 uses DroneShield’s RfAI engine to detect, identify and track drone signals in real time. The system is updated through software releases to adapt to evolving drone technologies and signal profiles. When mounted on a mobile platform, it extends detection coverage beyond fixed positions.

According to the companies, the combined system has been demonstrated in representative defense operating conditions to validate interoperability and performance.

“Overland AI has developed a highly capable autonomous ground platform designed for the realities of modern operations,” said Tom Branstetter, DroneShield’s Vice President of Business Development and Sales. “By integrating DroneSentry-X Mk2, we are ensuring those platforms operate with full-spectrum awareness across both ground and air domains.”

“Autonomous ground systems deliver a decisive advantage when combined with modular payloads,” said Byron Boots, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Overland AI. “Integrating DroneShield’s DroneSentry-X Mk2 onto ULTRA ensures our platform maintains awareness of aerial threats while preserving the mobility and autonomy ULTRA was built to deliver.”
