Saab has received a major order from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for a mobile and modular counter-unmanned aerial system (C-UAS) designed to protect the Swedish Armed Forces and critical civil infrastructure from drone threats. The order, valued at approximately SEK 2.6 billion, covers deliveries scheduled for 2027–2028.

The advanced system, developed in partnership with the Swedish Armed Forces and FMV, provides a cost-efficient layered defence against modern unmanned aerial threats. It is intended to strengthen and complement Sweden’s existing air defence and drone defence posture, ensuring robust protection of sensitive sites and operational areas.

“With today’s order Sweden will acquire an advanced mobile modular counter-unmanned aerial system. This technology enhances airspace security by detecting, tracking and mitigating unmanned aerial threats and can be easily integrated with other systems,” said Carl-Johan Bergholm, head of Saab’s business area Surveillance.

Saab’s C-UAS platform is fully modular and mobile, designed to detect and neutralise small- to medium-sized low-flying drones. The system integrates Saab’s field-proven sensors and effectors alongside selected third-party technologies into a single interoperable solution. It is designed to connect seamlessly with existing defence assets, providing a fully operational ready-to-deploy capability.

Built on established components, Saab’s C-UAS system allows for rapid deployment and flexible operations across multiple environments, ensuring both military and civil sites are protected from evolving drone threats. The system’s modularity and mobility make it particularly suited for rapid-response scenarios as well as permanent installation in critical infrastructure areas.

This latest order underscores Sweden’s ongoing commitment to advancing its defence capabilities in response to the growing use of unmanned aerial systems. Saab’s technology provides the Swedish Armed Forces with a modern adaptable and reliable tool to secure airspace, defend key assets and maintain operational readiness against emerging threats.
