Shield AI last week said it is raising $1.5 billion in Series G funding at a $12.7 billion post-money valuation and $500 million in fixed-return preferred equity financing. The autonomy systems and defense drone provider plans to use a portion of the proceeds to acquire Aechelon Technology Inc., a simulation software company.

The Sagewind Capital portfolio company said its Synthetic Reality (SR) platform realistically replicates real-world environments to enable both humans and machines to operate effectively in complex, detail-rich environments. South San Francisco, Calif.-based Aechelon added that SR has supported military training, simulation, and analysis missions for decades and now also supports civilian applications.
Shield AI runs Hivemind on multiple platforms
Founded in 2015, Shield AI said its mission is to protecting service members and civilians with intelligent systems. Its products include the Hivemind autonomy software and V-BAT and X-BAT aircraft. The San Diego-based company said its technology actively supports operations worldwide.
The Hivemind software has already piloted 26 classes of vehicles including F-16s, jet-powered uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs), helicopters, drone boats, and ground vehicles.
