Russian forces struck a market in one of Kharkiv with a drone on Monday afternoon, Feb. 2, Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported.
According to Terekhov, at around 2:30 p.m. a Russian combat drone hit the Slobidsky district. It was later confirmed that the strike targeted a local market.

The attack – occurring on the regional Day of Mourning for miners killed in an earlier Russian strike – damaged the administrative buildings.
On previous day, Feb. 1, Russian forces attacked a bus carrying DTEK miners in the Dnipropetrovsk region, killing 12 people and injuring another 16. DTEK said all those killed were miners returning from work.
“This attack was the largest single loss for DTEK since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion and one of the darkest days in the company’s history,” the company said, adding that all affected families would receive assistance.
President Volodymyr Zelensky called the strike on the bus in Ternivka a demonstrative crime that underscores Russia’s responsibility for escalating the war.
Serhiy “Flash” Beskrestnov, an adviser to Ukraine’s defense minister, said Russian drone operators clearly recognized the bus as a civilian target, describing the attack as an act of terrorism.
Russian forces also carried out another strike on Ukrzaliznytsia facilities on Monday morning, hitting a diesel locomotive at a station in Zaporizhzhia region.
According to Ukraine’s Ministry for Communities and Territorial Development, the locomotive crew was in shelter at the time of the attack, and no casualties were reported.
Separately, the State Emergency Service (DSNS) said Russian forces struck the residential sector of the Lebedynska community in the Sumy region on Monday morning. A house was completely engulfed in flames, and four other households were damaged.
“Due to the threat of repeated attacks, rescuers were forced to temporarily suspend work and retreat to a safe location,” the DSNS said, adding that all fires were later extinguished and no casualties were reported.
